Well, that shouldn’t be a problem.

It’s just XCOM, not Gran Turismo or something.

It’s 60 dollars but it’s a new Firaxis XCOM.

I mean, look at how the last one turned out.

Oh, I know how that feels. It’s a Firaxis game, and we must always downplay their power to ruin lives.

I wound up on an academic probation I never recovered from in college because Civ III came out. They make dangerous things.

At least XCOM 2 was designed by only half of the XCOM team, and not the one who did Enemy Within. That means I’m safe, right?

Bad news, it’s really good.

It’s also REALLY HARD. Jesus christ. Not even Xenonauts hit you with psionic attacks on the very first real mission.

Also, really hoping there are missions that aren’t timed. That really kills the mood for me. :|

Yeah, seriously, mind control as soon as they release you from the tutorial? Oh well just need to kill other people so they make zombies rather than mess with my soldiers.

It’s really hard but strangely much more forgiving overall. You can always beat back the overall endgame countdown and even a total wipe of your best squad is something you can recover from.

That was my biggest gripe with Enemy Unknown/Within. A single mistake, either in base construction or research path or mission choice or even something as minor as what mailbox you take cover behind can totally blow the game for you, to a degree that starting over is your best option.

My favorite thing about it, though, is how much more involving the missions are now that you’re on the offensive instead of merely reacting to the enemy. The opening of most missions, where you sneak into position and announce your arrival with grenades and gunfire, is so much more enjoyable than the last game’s “run towards the sound until you get overwatched somehow and then deal with it because you have to press the advance while defending for some reason” mission flow.
